Animal Activism

What does Jane Goodall have to impart about Hope and how can it help the animals of the world?

Jane Goodall has been doing important work in animal and environmental activism for years. In the “Jane: The Hope” documentary, we see the way she communicates with the chimpanzees in Tanzania. One of the ways she imparts Hope is through showing the way humans can connect and form relationships with animals. This can help the animals of the world, because if people who have never experienced these connections can see animals interact in these ways, they would form even more empathy and appreciation for them. Animals are intelligent, emotional, and relational, and people and animals can feel connected to each other.

Can celebrities like Cher have an impact on empathy for animals?

Celebrities are in the spotlight, the nature of their role in society means they have many people looking to them for inspiration. If they choose to inspire change, they can have a impact on large groups. When celebrities like Cher share stories like “The Loneliest Elephant,”

What is the 6th Greatest Extinction event and how does it relate to the Anthropocene?

The Anthropocene indicates the time when humans began to impact the planet in unmeasured ways, with too much power. As we have seen with Jane Goodall, humans, animals, and nature, can live in a balanced relationship and everyone can thrive. An unbalanced power affects the natural harmony of the world. This has lead to what is called the 6th Greatest Extinction. During this time, species are becoming rapidly endangered and extinct due to human activity. Therefore, it is a priority and responsibility for human’s to change our actions and live in a connected way to animals and nature.

What endangered species are you most aware of? How can we help preserve their habitats? (provide a photo)

There are many animals that I love, and growing up have seen them become endangered or threatened. As a child after watching “An Inconvenient Truth” and seeing the way climate change is affecting polar bears, I read every book I could find about them. I have also always been drawn to elephants and lions. Both African and Asian elephants used to be very common throughout their continents. However, their species has declined in the last century due to ivory trading and conflict with humans. Elephants are social animals that travel in groups, lead by a matriarch. Elephant mothers give birth once in 4 to 5 years. As some the largest mammals in our world, they need lots of space and food in their environment. Due to human’s encroaching on nature, Elephants are often lead towards human settlements where they may not be treated well. Elephants need to be looked after in their natural habitats and there are people who work in the savannah’s protecting them.
