Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris has broken glass ceilings as the first woman, and first person of African and Asian descent to become the Vice President of the United States.  Seeing her in this role is incredibly meaningful for girls and women of colour.  I am not American, yet I feel hopeful and inspired by Kamala Harris.  Seeing a woman in this role who looks like you and your family makes you feel represented and seen.  There is a huge, much needed shift happening in politics which will reflect a different view of the world to young girls who will grow up feeling represented.  Seeing Kamala Harris in this role will make young girls feel like they can see themselves in politics too if that is what they are interested in.  Girls, women, and people of colour can feel seen and heard by Kamala Harris.

I saw a photo on Instagram of Kamala Harris and all the previous Vice Presidents who were all older white men.  It was really poignant and disturbing to see a visual representation of how women and people of colour weren’t included or represented at all in this role.  Kamala Harris is the best person to create the change that we have needed to see forever.  She inspires and means so much to women and girls and will fight for inclusivity in politics and the world.
